number one - mexico

This is the first blog post for the dinner club. We had a fantastic food trip to mexico today - weather not exactly ideal for our outdoor cooking adventure today! But we persisted nonetheless and it was worth nearly being blown away by the crazy winds. We devoured some empanadas with a spicy vicki styled cabbage filling grilled on the chimenea, followed by lovely beef/capsicum fajitas with tomato salsa and a great avocado sauce. Then was the fish tacos - grilled marinated ling with the avocado sause and cabbage. The meal was capped off with a spicy chocolate chilli fudge tart - yum. Attendees today were Vicki, Megan, Penny, Islina, Katie, Inken, Franziska, Louise. Next - Meal 10 - we are off to Greenland! should be interesting! I have done some quick googling - whale blubber or dried reindeer anyone?!!..... looking forward to it!!

"Greenlandic provisions
A favourite lunch and a popular snack is dried cod and whale accompanied by whale blubber. Other favourites include dried ‘ammassat’ (a small herring-like fish in the salmon family called capelin), dried reindeer meat and whale skin with blubber, called ‘mattak’, which is a well-loved delicacy amongst the local population. And of course crowberries and blueberries in the autumn. These are used to a great extent both to accompany Greenlandic provisions and in desserts and cakes."(http://www.greenland.com/content/english/tourist/culture/greenlandic_cuisine/traditional_greenlandic_food)
